Don’t rescue anyone who doesn’t want to be rescued.

A couple of years back I was teaching at a personal training certification workshop in Sweden and met a fellow named Pavel Macek, who was also teaching at this certification.

We were able to laugh at each other’s jokes and he’s a good guy and often times posts inciteful things on his Instagram page. One post, in particular, caught my eye. It was words to live by, and I read each word.

One sentence, in particular, intrigued me. It was

Don’t rescue anyone that doesn’t want to be rescued

You see it’s commonplace when people start undergoing a transformative journey to try and push others to try to join them on their quest. Their intentions are entirely noble.

The thing is before someone embarks on such a journey they have to be mentally ready. Transforming your body like in A12 is a big ask. You have to be ready and able to commit to 5 one hour sessions a week for 12 consecutive weeks. That’s a big ask, but it does produce big results.

results like in the picture above, don’t come without having your head in the right place

Many times when people indicate that they are interested, I outline the program and I’m almost looking to keep them out of it. Not that I don’t want them to do it, but because I don’t want to set them up for disappointment if they think they are ready but aren’t actually ready.

Having said that, there are every problem there is a solution and there is almost always something you can do. I have personal training clients that only train with me once a week and do homework on the side. It’s not optimal but it’ll have to do.

Another line in his post was

Be very careful with who you rescue.

This also rings true because, for a person reaching out for personal training, that very first step can be a big one. A person is basically admitting there is something they don’t like about themselves, they want to fix it, but they are forced to admit they can’t do it on their own.

And if they reach out to a professional, the professional owes it to them to give them a good experience or it can sour them on future attempts.

If this is you, I would be more than honored to be the one to help you. And I offer a one week free trial for you to see if you think I’m the one for you.

re: Ricky Gervais and his jokes on Celebrity Body Transformation

Last night the awards were on. I normally don’t watch these things but my wife does, and when she does I’m usually in the same room as her doing something else.

Ricky Gervais happened to be hosting and being a comedian he had quipped something to the effect of…

“They aren’t paid to act, they are paid to go to the gym twice a day.”

…and making a quip about how they are probably all on steroids.

He’s probably right. Here’s the reality of celebrity body transformations.

They are the perfect storm for creating massive changes. Here’s what I mean.

Desire/motivation: If an actor has a multimillion-dollar movie deal that is hinged upon looking a certain way that is a tremendous incentive to get in shape.

Environment: Usually the celebrity has access to a full-time personal trainer (and oftentimes a good one) full-time nutritionist and a full-time chef. They have the resources plus motivation.

And the part that no one really wants to talk about…they usually are genetically blessed…and more than likely take steroids on top of that. And no, I’m not here to judge them. Whenever there is that kind of money on the line, people are always going to be looking for any kind of an edge they can get.

Now oftentimes, the way the celebrities look can inspire people to get into shape. Whenever these movies get released, articles appear in various online magazines about how they got into shape. Secrets of their so and so’s diet will also appear, neither one really telling the full story.

People then flood gyms and personal training studios hoping to look that way.

And the thing is you can create massive transformations as long as you train the right way.

You can do this without steroids and without being genetically blessed. It isn’t going to be done by simply going to the gym and doing whatever you read about online.

It’ll be done by having highly effective exercises, with the proper technique done in the right dosage to create change over time. Combine that with eating healthy and nutritious foods over time and you can make massive changes in shockingly short periods of time.

Here are some examples of what’s possible in a 12 week period.

The program that created those transformations will be offered in my personal training studio starting January 20th, 2020. I’ve only got 2 spots remaining so if you are ready to make 2020 your year send me a text at 973 476 5328 and I can fill you in on the details to see if it’s right for you.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

Earlier today I was talking to one of my personal training clients about a TED talk I watched where the person suggested a complete overhaul of our healthcare system.

This person proposed that doctors should get paid a salary to keep people healthy rather than only treating them when they are sick. Now I’m not a doctor but if you think about it, that’s kind of what I do. I help get people healthy and keep them healthy.

The Dalai Lama speaks

People don’t hire personal trainers because they are sick. They hire them because they are sick and tired of looking or feeling a certain way. Many times they don’t even really know exactly what they want, they just know that their current state isn’t it.

In fact, the whole point of my goal assessment interview that comes after the one-week trial membership is quite simply to answer the question “What do you really want?”

You see, many times people come to me because something is off, and they reason that proper exercise will fix it, and they need my help to make sure they do it right.

In many instances, diet and exercise can… because the road to health by building strength and eating healthy nourishing foods that you enjoy can literally change lives. Mine sure did after all. That’s the reason I became a personal trainer was to change lives the way that getting strong, lean, healthy and confident changed mine.

One of my core philosophies is that life is for living, and the things you do should be to make it better, training and nutrition included. Life is better when you are strong, lean and healthy. You no longer are bound by the limits that come from poor health or obesity.

The chains that have held you back can be broken by some simple steps that progress you from where you are to where you would like to be. And breaking chains starts with choosing to go down a different path.

Many times it not only prolongs the quality of life but also the length of life in general. You see, things have a tendency to really go downhill when someone loses the ability to get in and out of a chair easily. When it isn’t easy, they tend to do it less. When they do it less, it becomes even more difficult, like a downward spiral that results in something like falling down and no longer having the ability to get back up.

Now, you may be years and years and years away from this that’s a good thing because the earlier you can get started the better and easier it will be. The things you do now can set you up for a stronger and healthier future. The key is to get started…because…

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
